Hourihan hunts reaction for FAWNL Cup quarter-final

Argyle are looking to reach the final four of the FAWNL Cup on Sunday afternoon, as they face Lewes at The Dripping Pan.

Earlier in the season, the Greens overcame the Rooks, away from home, with a confident 4-0 win, ending a long-standing home unbeaten record for the East Sussex side, thanks to goals from Ellie Noble, Tianna Teisar, Charlotte Whitmore and an own-goal.

In the cup, Argyle have also found success. After comfortably topping Group A with wins over Bridgwater United, Bristol Rovers and Marine Academy Plymouth, impressive victories over Watford and a thrilling 3-2 result against Oxford United secured the spot in the last eight for the Greens.

Now, Head Coach Marie Hourihan hopes her side can progress to the semi-final of the competition, but will need a reaction following a 3-1 home defeat against Watford at Home Park last weekend.

“This is a perfect reaction game for the squad,” Hourihan told Argyle TV. “You want to be involved in these big games. We were extremely disappointed at the weekend with the result. Most of the performance we were happy with but, ultimately, it's the result that matters. We now go into this weekend and have an opportunity to progress in the cup against a good Lewes side, who are in a good run of form.

“It is our first away game of 2026, but we've been there before and are familiar with the surroundings. It's a good opportunity for us to bounce back, really.

“This is still a young group, and a lot of these players are experiencing these things for the first time. We’ve processed that game; we've reviewed it, and now we are well under way with our preparation for this game against Lewes. Our focus has turned to that.  We are using the Watford game as fuel to take into this game.

“The main thing, though, is that it is a cup game. Form and any previous results go out the window a bit because it is a one-off game. They're very good at home, and we are very mindful of that. It is a nice, big pitch. They're scoring lots of goals and are going to be extremely confident, so we know that we need to go in and hit the ground running.

“We need to right the wrongs, in terms of our own performance levels, that we experienced in the Watford game, and make sure that those things don't happen again.”
