Hourihan looks ahead to home clash with Lewes

Argyle’s season of success has meant many teams have been opponents on multiple occasions – one of those being Lewes.

The Greens host the Rooks this Sunday, 8 March, at Home Park, with the game being the third match-up of the season between the two FAWNL Southern Premier Division teams.

Two trips to the Dripping Pan for Marie Hourihan’s side have ended in victory, with three points and a crucial cup win being the outcomes of positive, confident performances.

Now, a chance to end the season with a clean sweep against Lewes presents itself for Argyle, after a much-deserved break following two important wins over Exeter City and AFC Wimbledon. Head Coach Hourihan has credited the attention to detail this weekend from Argyle in preparation for the clash, after some time away from the pitch.

“We've had a little bit of time between the Wimbledon game and now, to allow us all a bit of time to refresh,” Hourihan told Argyle TV. “At the same time, it’s allowed us to refine a few parts of our game and areas that we wanted to tidy up on, which has been a perfect opportunity for us really.

“We are all very excited to be back at home but are playing against a team who are really good, and an attack-minded side that's scoring a lot of goals and getting some positive results in the last couple of games. We are anticipating a very difficult game, but really looking forward to being in front of the Home Park crowd and continuing the final push to end the league campaign.

“The break has energised everybody because it's given us a little more time to work on individualised things a little bit more with players and be a little bit more targeted with what we want to do. That energy has definitely been visible within the training sessions and the feelgood factor too, especially with the sun starting to come out now.

“We're in that home stretch now. I've said to the group that this is a tough five-week period and we have some hard fixtures in there, but also some fixtures for us to look forward to, with the final being the showpiece event.

“We know that we've got a difficult game coming up this weekend, and we can't look any further forward than that. Lewes are a different team now. I think they've added players and now have a real threat to their top line, with a lot of pace in their front three.

“They will bring confidence into this game. Although we won those two previous games, they had large spells within those games where they were well in it, and we need to be prepared for that.

“On the flip side, we will take confidence from those last two games where we imposed ourselves early on and made sure that we didn't allow them the opportunities to hurt us. That’s going to be important going into this game. We must ensure that we've got that security and we are ready in every moment for that transitional play.”
