Argyle are back at Home Park this Sunday, 31 August, facing Billericay Town in FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division action.
Through their opening two games this campaign, the Greens have picked up three points. A 3-0 victory over Hashtag United at home kickstarted their season, but an away trip to Watford last weekend ended with the hosts picking up the points.
Head Coach Marie Hourihan believes that the positives from the loss against the Hornets can be turned into an important three points at home against a struggling Billericay side.
“We’ve analysed the Watford game, looked back and have taken a lot of learnings from it,” Hourihan told Argyle TV. “For me, it was great to put in perspective where we were eight weeks ago to where we are now. At the end of the day, it’s fine margins. If we want to be competing at that top end of the table, then we need to be better in both boxes. We take the lessons from the game and roll into this weekend, trying to put those right.
“Preparation is a non-negotiable for any game of football. This weekend is about us, it's how we respond to the back of the result last weekend. We need to respond. Our opposition, Billericay Town, we pay them full respect, like we do with any team that we play, but my pure focus is on us, how we perform, and rebuilding that momentum again.
“In training this week, the enthusiasm in the group has been really good, off the back of last weekend and Lulu [Jarvis] as well. It took a lot out of everybody, but everyone's come back into this week refreshed and re-energised.”
Argyle’s clash with the Essex side is the first of three games at Home Park in August and September, with Bridgwater United and AFC Wimbledon travelling to PL2 in the upcoming weeks.
Hourihan shared her and her side's excitement to return to the Theatre of Greens and cannot wait to be in front of the Green Army again.
She said: “It’s always exciting to be back at Home Park. We love playing here and the support is fantastic. Obviously, it’s the second home game of the season and we are looking to get some momentum again and get those performance levels back up, especially in front of a home crowd.
“We want to really impose ourselves. We want to play entertaining football, but again, underpinning all of that has to be the hard work and application and that's something that I'm really keen for us to make sure that we show in front of our home supporters.”
