Argyle Women are hoping to extend their unbeaten run at Home Park to four games on Sunday, when they host AFC Wimbledon in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division.
The Greens sit in fourth place after three games, picking up wins against Hashtag United and Billericay Town, having also scored the most goals in the division with 12.
Victory over Bridgwater United in the FAWNL Cup in the previous outing at the Theatre of Greens means that Marie Hourihan’s side has won all three ties in front of the Green Army this season and have the chance to further this run when facing the 10th-placed Dons.
Despite being full of confidence and in a winning mindset, Hourihan knows her side needs to ensure basic standards are met against a tough and gritty Wimbledon team.
“We are all really excited to be back at Home Park again,” she told Argyle TV. “The crowds have been really good since I've come in, and we’re back to league action this weekend, facing a very good Wimbledon side, so we’re excited to get into that game and perform again in front of our home fans.
“Wimbledon’s games have all been one-goal swings, so far. I think they are an established tier three side and have some very good attacking players, so we are going to have to be at our very best to get a result against them on Sunday. I fully anticipate a competitive game, and they'll be coming here high on confidence off the back of their own cup win at the weekend. I think it's set up nicely for a great game.
“We've hit a good run of form off the back of the two cup games [against Marine Academy Plymouth and Bridgwater], and the previous league fixture against Billericay, but in this league, every game is a different test. It's a very tight league. It's a very open league, and I fully expect Wimbledon to come here and attack, with the clear objective to come and take the points, so we know that we're going to have to be at it. They don't concede many goals.
“We have been discussing the importance of being clinical. We are creating opportunities, but we need to be a little bit more refined in the final third, and that will be massive again at the weekend.
“Off the back of Sunday, we have been looking at a few areas that we need to tidy up, certainly in possession, but it's been really positive on the training pitch. We'll be ready and prepared for Sunday.”
