Adam Randell

Hull City (H) | Randell's Preview

If Argyle are able to get the result they need against Hull City on Saturday lunchtime, and in doing so secure their place in next season’s Sky Bet Championship, it will mean a lot to a lot of people.

Perhaps none more so than Adam Randell.

When Argyle were in the Championship over a decade ago, Randell was a young boy, in the stands, watching his heroes. Now, he is likely to be at the heart of the Greens’ efforts to maintain the club’s spot in the second tier of English football.

Argyle head into the Hull game knowing that a win will keep them up. Indeed, matching or bettering Birmingham City’s result at home to Norwich City is the baseline requirement for survival.

Hull have their own stake to play for, and curiously enough have a reason to want to see Norwich beaten. The Canaries and West Bromwich Albion occupy places in the play-off positions above Hull, so a win for the Tigers, and failings of at least one of the others named, may mean Hull can squeeze into the post-season efforts to get to the Premier League.

“There's obviously a lot of tension behind it,” said Randell, previewing the game. “I don't think there's a better place we could be playing it. We're in front of our home fans who are going to be right behind us, which will help us all the way.

“We know the support that they've already given us; that will continue to happen. It's time for us to do what we're good at, put on a show, and go and win the game.

“It means a lot to me. I think it's hard to put into words what it means because I'm always being told by people that I know how much it means to them. I've grown up supporting the club and back in the days of the Championship, I was coming to watch.

“I want to make sure that Argyle are always on the way up, always improving and always looking upwards. In order to keep that going, I need to make sure that we stay in the Championship and that we don't drop down.

“For me personally, for my career as well, I want to make sure that I'm playing with Argyle in the Championship. For my home life as well, I want people around me to be happy.

“I'm sure both teams will be going out there to win the game. It'll make it an enjoyable, competitive game. We will especially be trying to do everything we can to, to make sure that we win and take the three points.

“Obviously, it means a lot to [Hull] as well. We're going to be doing everything we can to stop them and do what we can to help us.”
