Issaka and Hatch star for Wales
Argyle’s Wales under-16 internationals have had a week to remember, with Freddie Issaka and Joe Hatch excelling in the UEFA Development Tournament.
The pair were both on the scoresheet in the final game of the group stage, as the young Welsh side came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Spain.
Trailing by two at the break, Joe, who had himself been introduced at half time, grabbed one back with Freddie assisting.
Freddie then netted the equaliser in the final few minutes to give Wales an incredible draw against a strong Spain squad.
Three days earlier Joe was also on the scoresheet, scoring in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Turkey on Monday and in doing so, grabbing his first goal at this level.
Making his first start for the Wales under-16 side, the forward from North Devon confidently made space for himself in the box before firing across goal to score.
Both players appeared in all three of Wales’ matches at the tournament, with Freddie starting the opener against Brazil, with Joe coming on for the final 30 minutes.
Academy manager Phil Stokes, who watched the game against Brazil said, “We are extremely proud of the performances of both Joe and Freddie.
“Especially with them both getting on the scoresheet against one of the best footballing nations in Spain.
“To see them both do so well against some of the best players of their age in the world, is incredible and is testament to their quality and the work of the Argyle Academy.
“They would have learned so much from the camp and will hopefully come back to Argyle with the confidence to carry on improving.”
