Jamie Lowry speaks ahead of Portsmouth clash

Argyle’s Under-18s are back in action on Saturday morning and will be hoping to extend their winning run at the start of their Youth Alliance League campaign.

Jamie Lowry’s side have already beaten Watford 6-1 and Stevenage 4-0 so far this season. The Under-18s Head Coach wants to see that level of performance carried in this weekend’s clash against Portsmouth, who themselves have started well.

“We can’t let Stevenage be a one-off,” Lowry told Argyle TV. “I think that’s the really important thing in football: consistency.

“Consistent performances will get you results; if you’re up and down you will have up and down results.

“If we are clear in what our identity is, if we are clear in what we are going after, and everybody sticks to the gameplan, tries to execute it as best they can, then we will definitely win more games than we lose this season.

“I think we have a good structure at the moment in terms of what we are going after, out of possession and in possession. We have a real good identity, I feel the boys have worked really hard in pre-season building that, and adapting to what’s slightly different to what we’ve done previously.

“They’ve gone out and executed it. I feel like we’ve got a really goodtogetherness with this group. We have boys that want to be successful and want to have a good year in under-18s football, whether that’s being successful in the Youth Alliance League like we have done previously or having a good FA Youth Cup run.

“I think the boys are really hungry to, when it comes to the end of the season, be able to look back and have some nice memories to take away with them.”

Portsmouth have frequently proven tough opposition for Argyle, and they will be keen to disrupt the Greens’ winning start to the season.

Lowry is hoping that his side can control the game and continue doing what they have done so well at both ends of the pitch.

He said: “They’re (Portsmouth) a strong side, they’re always competitive, it’s a local derby for us. They’re someone we will have to challenge again, they’ve had a really good start to the season as well, beating Wimbledon in their first game which is a really good result.

“The message will be that it’s about us, being consistent at what we’ve done. Not ‘two games means we’ve cracked it’, it’s that we have to keep building on and keep setting those targets and maintaining our levels.

“It will be down to us to set the tempo of the game and hopefully be in control.”
