Galloway

Leicester City (H) | Galloway's Reaction

While huge credit for Argyle’s 1-0 win at home to Leicester City on Friday night will rightly go to goalscorer Mustapha Bundu, not to mention the eclectic Home Park crowd, we need to hear the case for the defence.

As soon as Bundu had scored in the 21st minute of the game, emphasis was on keeping a clean sheet, which would lead to a precious three-point accumulation. This was seen through - and left-sided defender Brendan Galloway was part of the unit that kept out everything the league-leading Foxes had to throw at them.

“Winning, keeping a clean sheet: it doesn't get much better than that,” said Galloway, after the game. “Being a defender, I think that the most important thing for me is keeping a clean sheet, as the other defenders will tell you. We also want to go out there and score two or three. We’re not afraid of teams, especially here.

“The mentality is: if you can get one, let's go get two or three. Although we didn't manage to do that, I think that we were a great threat going forward still. We just had to defend well as a team, as a unit. Fair play to the lads. We were really focused and I think that's the way it's got to be moving forward.

“No matter what system, what tactics, you've got to have the mentality that you want to go out there and win You've got to have the mentality that you want to go out there and win your 1v1s, win your duels, and then we can play, then we can be a threat.

“From minute 1 to 90, that was there, and that's the mentality that's got to be moving forward.”

Argyle have three games remaining in their quest to secure Sky Bet Championship football for next season, and Galloway is focused on ensuring Argyle claim the points they need from the final trio of matches.

He had some huge words of praise for the Green Army’s sterling efforts against Leicester, and said the players wanted to put smiles on those faces, not just on Friday, but going forward.

“It was an amazing game, amazing result,” said Brendan. “I just can't thank the fans enough for showing up for us. It really pushed us on.

“They've really stuck by us. The noise in this building was amazing. They really drove us on, really helped us get the result.

“[Our message in the dressing room was] just go out there and believe. We're at home. We're the home team. We knew that it was going to be a fortress tonight. We knew that the fans were going to be right behind us tonight. We've got to go out there on the pitch, believe in ourselves and believe in each other.

“We want to be in this league. We deserve to be in this league. What better way to go out and show it against one of the best teams in the league.

“[Near the end of the game] I got fouled, and I didn't know whether the ref had blown the whistle for a foul, so I just kept on going. I looked around and the game had stopped. I hadn’t heard the whistle. That sums up the support tonight. They were loud, the fans were aggressive, and I love it.

“We really wanted to go out there and put a performance in for them. Hopefully we sent them home happy.

“We won, but we're focused on next week. Next week's another big one for us. The Green Army are going to turn up for us, and we need to send them home proud.”
