Lowry previews tough trip to Swindon

Argyle Under-18’s can move into the top three of the Youth Alliance League South with a win away from home against Swindon Town on Friday morning.

A 4-2 victory over Newport County in the previous match sets the Greens up with confidence ahead of an important tie against a strong Swindon Town side.

Argyle were victors in the reverse fixture and Head Coach Jamie Lowry believes his side can use confidence from this season and success over the Robins last campaign to succeed in Wiltshire.

“We’re excited about the challenge,” Lowry told Argyle TV. “It'll be a really difficult game. They're a well-coached and well-organised side and will be aggressive like ourselves in terms of the press and work rate, being competitive and battling as well. I’m looking forward to a good challenge for our lads.

“The boys are up for it like they should be for every game. Maybe a little bit from last season will play on the minds of the Swindon lads, who were involved in the fixtures, as they were very good and competitive games, and it came down to the final game of the season.

“I think with the game potentially being cagey, key moments will be important. Defending our box and being clinical in theirs, not giving away any soft chances, doing things properly and minimising mistakes are key. It could be down to one mistake, one goal, or one opportunity with two good sides going at it.

“We must be focused, clear in our game plan and what we're trying to do and then it's executing it and defending our box well but being ruthless in their box as well.

“The lads set themselves that challenge to beat Swindon and go on a positive run until the end of the season. They started the run last Saturday and, like I said, it's going to be a very difficult challenge, but it's something that the boys want to prove they can go and get a result.

“I don't think there'll be a tougher test really between now and the end of the season apart from Swindon.”

With Argyle finally having a break from midweek action recently, before a hectic schedule restarts, Lowry’s side have been able to recover well, with some squad members returning back to play.

He said: “The boys are in a good place and we’ve got a couple more returning. Sam Lord got some minutes under his belt on the weekend, which is nice. We're integrating him in slowly and there are a few other lads not too far away.

“We're quite fortunate at the moment that we're not heavy with midweek games as well, so it gives us a chance to get minutes into the boys through and the right gym work as well.”
