Argyle Women lost their second group-stage game in the FAWNL Cup against Bridgwater United at Middlezoy Rovers FC.
Charlotte Strippel's strike in the opening minute set the tone for the afternoon, the game was put to bed in first-half stoppage time when Megan Jarvis doubled the hosts' lead.
Matt Green made one change to the side that lost at Fulham last weekend, Farrah Ambrose came in for Ellie J Bishop in midfield.
It was a nightmare start to the game for the Greens, as within the opening minute they found themselves a goal behind. Argyle were unable to clear the ball, allowing Strippel to charge through on goal and fire the ball into the back of the net.
The Pilgrims rallied and produced some chances of their own in response; both Kennedy Garside and Khloe Reed had shots blocked in the box from close range.
The hosts probably should have doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Abbey Hateley was played through on goal, but a great stop from Argyle keeper Giles ensured the score remained as it was.
The Greens were limited to half-chances for the remainder of the first period. Shana Dolbel's long-range drive was the closest to threatening Bridgwater goalkeeper – and former Pilgrim - Jasmine Read.
Argyle were dealt another blow with just moments left to play in the first half, as Jarvis made it 2-0.
Bridgwater's number nine was on hand to finish off an attack, doubling the hosts' advantage. They had taken their chances and had a two-goal lead at half-time.
Stoppages and substitutions killed any momentum that Matt Green's side had tried to build, allowing Bridgwater to see the game out with relative comfort.
Ambrose looked lively throughout; she had an effort saved from range by Read. Argyle's best chance of the game came in the last few minutes; Reed blasted an effort over the bar from close range before Ambrose fired narrowly wide following a set-piece.
It was not to be for Argyle in the end, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat. This means that it is all to play for when they face Torquay United in the FAWNL Cup at the end of the month.
