Inspired second half substitutions from Head Coach Tom Cleverley saw Argyle clinch a 3-2 victory away at Doncaster Rovers.
Argyle took the lead in the first half after Will Evans tapped home a saved Oliver Irow shot, following good play from Bim Pepple.
The hosts responded early in the second half as Alfie May converted a penalty after Matty Sorinola fouled.
But the introduction of Caleb Watts made all the difference as he scored one and assisted Pepple to see Argyle into a two-goal lead. Sean Grehan scored a late consolation for Rovers.
Tommi O’Reilly had the first opening of the game firing at goal from the edge of the box following a short corner, but Murphy Cooper saved comfortably low down.
The tenth minute saw the first major chance with Brandon Hanlan battling Alex Mitchell to a long ball and coming out the better before firing a left footed shot just wide.
Moments later, the same man got the better of Wes Harding this time heading a dangerous cross over the crossbar from close range.
Tyreeq Bakinson had Argyle’s first chance of the game as he picked up a lay off from Pepple and worked space in the area, but his shot was tame and Simkin saved easily. The Canadian then had a chance of his own heading a cross from Irow onto the roof of the net.
Bakinson was central to much of Argyle’s good early play and he drove forward again with the ball eventually dropping for Ronan Curtis, but he curled his shot high and wide.
Robbie Gotts then collected a poor Argyle clearance on the edge of the box and fired a shot at goal that Cooper tipped just wide.
Tom Cleverley’s men then took the lead as Pepple spun centrally, he worked it wide to Irow who fired at goal and Simkin could only palm it into the path of Evans, who tapped into an empty net.
May looked for an immediate response for the hosts firing a shot across goal that didn’t trouble Cooper. Moments later, he gathered a flick on from Isaac Hutchinson in the box and flicked a volley goalwards, but it deflected just over.
Argyle thought they had doubled their lead five minutes before the break after Pepple brilliantly volleyed in a Harding cross, but the linesman had his flag up immediately.
The Greens started the second half slowly and Sorinola failed to clear a Hanlan cross and fouled Owen Bailey giving away a penalty. May made no mistake from the spot.
Hutchinson had a huge opportunity for the hosts to take the lead after a breakaway but fired his effort well wide of the target.
Another Hanlan cross caused problems again as May flicked it goalwards, but it went behind for a corner off Julio Pleguezuelo.
Cleverley made three changes in quick succession and Watts almost made an immediate impact striking a lay off from Owen Oseni just wide of the post with Simkin beaten.
He then turned provider with Argyle’s high press giving the Greens the lead back. Watts stole the ball, drove forward and slid in Pepple in space who comfortably finished into the bottom corner with his left foot.
Pepple then caused carnage chasing a long ball, Simkin couldn’t punch away cleanly under pressure from the frontman and Watts collected to lash into the net beyond the scrambling Neill Byrne.
Owen Oseni then picked up the ball in the area, played it to Harvey White who struck a right footed shot from the edge of the box, Simkin parried and Pepple stabbed it goalwards, but the keeper got back to claw it away.
Argyle’s number 18 looked bright on his return from injury and made a chance for himself, beating several players and curling a shot at goal but it went just over.
The hosts did get a late consolation after Grehan headed home at the back post from a Bayley McCann free kick, but it was too little, too late and Argyle clinched three points on the road.
