Mathias Ross signs for Argyle

Argyle have made a second signing of the week, bringing central defender Mathias Ross to the club.

The 24-year-old joins on a three-year contract, following his release from Turkish giants Galatasaray.

A Danish youth international up to under-21 level, Ross began his professional career in his homeland at AaB. He went on to make 104 appearances, scoring six times for the Danish top-tier side.

Ross made the move to Turkey in 2022 for a seven-figure fee but only made two appearances for the Istanbul-based team, scoring once.

He had two loan spells during his three-year spell with Gala, appearing for NEC Breda and Sparta Prague.

Having played in the Champions League for Sparta Prague last season, Ross becomes Argyle’s 12th summer signing and Head Coach Tom Cleverley is thrilled to bring him to the club.

He commented: “I am delighted we have managed to strengthen our defensive options with our second signing of the week.

“Mathias joins with excellent pedigree having played plenty of games at a high level, considering he is still only 24.

“He will complement our squad perfectly and challenge our current defenders for a place in the team. I want to welcome him to Argyle and look forward to seeing him in action very soon.”

Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox added: “Mathias was extremely sought after by clubs throughout Europe, and we are really pleased to bring him to Argyle.

“He comes fresh from a season at a big European club and featured in the Champions League as well.

“He fits the model of player we are looking to recruit with good league experience but is also a good age for development, with excellent potential.”

Mathias will wear the number 2 shirt, and the deal is subject to a work permit and EFL approval, and international clearance.
