Argyle return to FA Women’s National League action this Sunday when they welcome Real Bedford to Home Park.

The Pilgrims will be looking to build on last weekend’s first win at Home Park, with Brooklyn Brothers’ stunning free-kick securing a 1-0 victory over Torquay United.

Real Bedford are the next opponents, with the visitors coming into the game having won two of their opening five league fixtures and made a strong start to their league cup campaign, winning their group to progress to the next stage.

Argyle Head Coach Matt Green expects another competitive encounter between the sides.

“They will come at us 100%. It is always a great game against Real Bedford; we had a couple of good ones last year,” he said.

“They’ve got some really good, quick frontline players. It will be another experience for our girls but, like we keep saying each week, we are not going into games fearing teams.

“We will go at them to play our game. We’ve watched their matches and we know what to expect from them. We will set up a plan to try and get those wins that we need.”

Argyle head into the contest with a sense of confidence following their win over Torquay. Green believes the victory was an important moment for his young squad, particularly after a challenging run of games against strong sides.

He said: “I think it was a positive result for us; one that we needed. To get that first win at Home Park was really important for the squad and the new staff.

“We had the opportunity to showcase some attacking parts to our game that we haven’t been able to use over the last few weeks with the level of opposition we have played against.

“It was really good to see what we have been working on in training come through, especially in that first 45 minutes.”

New signing Cadi Rodgers made her debut against Torquay and is set to feature again against Real Bedford. Green has been impressed by what the defender has brought to his squad since joining, having most recently been at Chelsea Under-23s.

Green said: “She is young, hungry and a really good communicator at the back. I think a lot of supporters heard her shouting and organising last weekend.

“Cadi brings us that little bit of pace that we might have been lacking and she can cover the channels on either side.”

Rodgers was also recently called up to the Wales senior squad, adding an international player to Argyle’s developing squad.

With another tough test now approaching, the Pilgrims have been boosted by a full week of preparation ahead of Sunday’s game, with Green pleased by the response from his players since last weekend’s win.

“There has been a bit of a buzz around the group,” he said. “You can just sense that bit of relief of getting our first win at home.

“You can tell in training that there is an added 5-10% that the girls have been bringing this week which has been great.

“We’ve come through the week without any injuries, so we will have a full squad to pick from for Real Bedford.

“The feeling is positive at the minute – we just want to try and keep that momentum going and keep building and developing this young group.”
