Argyle’s win over Norwich City on Saturday kept hopes alive of survival in the Sky Bet Championship. For Head Coach Miron Muslic, it also justifies the positivity shown by a man who continues to be positive about his team’s survival chances.
Not that one win secures safety or anything like that. The Greens are still bottom of the league, and still adrift, but, crucially, they still believe.
The next game comes around quickly, on Wednesday night against Swansea City, who in 15th place and with 48 points, are almost certainly safe, with little to play for. If you are a pessimist, this makes them dangerous – they can play with freedom and less pressure.
For Miron, the emphasis is on his team. If they play as they have done against Watford and Norwich in recent weeks, then they will have a chance.
Speaking to Argyle TV about Saturday’s win, Muslic said: “It felt like we are back in, and it felt like hope. We have to take advantage of this, and the next possibility for another final, for another must-win, is Wednesday night. We have to treat it like this. It's another chance for us to grab this.
“It feels like a miracle almost. And why not? I was very positive, the last couple of weeks. I have to; it's my job.
“I have to lead, I have to give this pathway that we can manage it and, in the end, the lads have to perform. I think if we can do the same, like we did against Norwich, we have all the chances for Wednesday night.
“I'm very proud and very pleased, not only with the reaction - because the reaction was obvious - with the performance, the goalscoring opportunities we created, and the beautiful goals also we scored. It shows that we are still alive and that we believe.
“Every single good performance, every single good result, was actually when we played in our structure. Organised, together, compact and very, very dangerous in transition. These are, I think, the perfect ingredients for us. They also fit to the current squad, and also, by the way, very difficult to play against.
“We need, again, the same structure, and the same desire and the same willingness inside this organisation. Then we will be able to grab the next three points - that's the plan, believe me.
“[Swansea have] absolutely no pressure, and I think this is a good team. They are very possession based, very dominant in possession - very similar to Norwich. I think [Swansea have] the second highest possession in our competition, and had a fantastic result against Derby.
“They will have the opportunity to play free and we have to win. I want also my team to focus first on our performance. If we do this, we have the chance to go over there and grab the three points.”
