Muslic previews final day meeting with Leeds
One game remains of Argyle’s memorable, if ultimately unsuccessful, 2024/25 season, as Leeds United visit Home Park.
It could, by the end of the early afternoon, be the crowning of the league champions, as they beat the side that finishes bottom of the league. It could, equally, be Argyle clawing back a modicum of pride by finishing 23rd, or even 22nd, while Leeds miss out on the title.
The Greens, and indeed the Green Army, have no real skin in the game when it comes to the identity of the divisional champions. However, Head Coach Miron Muslic is leading the calls to ensure that Argyle do everything in their power to sign off on a relatively high note.
Argyle have come up short in their attempts to stay up, which is all the more galling seeing as they have won three of their last four games; four of their final six.
Last weekend, they learned of their ultimate fate while still warming up at Preston North End, but would still go on to win the game 2-1, showing great character, and somewhat cheering up the near 1,900 travelling fans in Central Lancashire.
And it is for them – and the entire Green Army – that Miron wants to dedicate the season’s finale.
“We are still very much looking forward to this last game, even though that the disappointment is there that we failed to achieve our goal,” said Muslic.
“We are relegated, so you can imagine how we feel. But we've been relegated just 10 minutes before the first whistle against Preston, and we still went out to perform, to give it one more time, all for the Green Army away. The lads did it in a fantastic way.
“I think we did a lot of things right in the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough.
“This game on Saturday, it's another big one because Leeds are coming to win the trophy, to win the title, and we are ready to give them a proper fight.
“We will not roll out the red carpet for them. We will try to win this game.
“It won't be easy, but actually everything was hard this season for us. We are kind of used to having these obstacles and challenges in front of us. So why not, one more time, go all in for green and white?
“This is a proud organisation. This is a good, good club. Like the captain said last week, we have by far the best fans in the country, and I’m telling this from my heart.
“Surely for us, it’s the biggest motivation, to make them once again proud in a very, very difficult season for us, in a very challenging and demanding season for them.
“There is always hope and always light in the end of the tunnel, and there are always ways to bounce back - together we can achieve this.”
