Owen Dale joins Argyle on loan

Argyle have made a second deadline-day signing, recruiting Oxford United winger Owen Dale on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old has plenty of EFL experience having started his career at Crewe Alexandra, before moving to Blackpool and then the Kassam Stadium.

During his time at Crewe, he had loan spells with Witton Albion, Altrincham and then the Tangerines before making that move permanent. He also spent a season on loan at Portsmouth while in the North West and joined Oxford in February 2024.

He made 15 appearances for the U’s in Sky Bet League One at the end of that season and 11 in the Championship the following year. He then joined Wigan on loan in February 2025 and made 17 appearances for the Latics.

Pleased to secure the signing of Dale until next summer, Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley added: “Owen brings with him strong EFL experience having played close to 250 games at just 26 years of age.

“Nearly 150 of those have come at League One level, and he has also played at a higher level for Oxford United, so will bring real quality and experience to the squad.

“He will add to the mentality of the group but most importantly will strengthen our options in a wide area and increase our creativity and output. I am delighted to bring him to Argyle and want to welcome him to the club.”

Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox added: “After suffering an injury to Xav last week, it was clear that we needed to strengthen in wide areas and to bring in someone of Owen’s calibre and experience at this level is a real boost.

“He is good with both feet and a real threat with his delivery from wide areas. He will complement the selection of wide players we currently have, and I look forward to seeing him in green soon.”

Owen will wear the number 35 shirt and will be available for Saturday’s Sky Bet League One home game against Stockport County.
