Papaioannou voted Women's Player of the Month for January

Argyle Women’s captain Giota Papaioannou has been voted the Player of the Month for January.

The defender was a key part of the Argyle defensive line that picked up a vital victory against Milton Keynes Dons at the start of the month, as the side begins to push up the table.

Giota won the supporters’ poll with 38% of the vote, ahead of Ella Stephens (28%), Georgie Knott (17%) and Amii Kearley (17%).

Papaioannou said: “I’m honoured to win the award. It feels good having the work we do as defenders recognised. January has been a busy month with quite a few games, but I thought we did well as a defensive unit.

“I’m grateful to the fans for voting me to win the award and thinking that I’d made a difference to the team in January.”
