Preview | Argyle Women v AFC St Austell Ladies
Argyle Women will continue their FA Cup journey this weekend as they take on St Austell Ladies in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
St Austell play a couple of divisions below The Pilgrims in the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division, one league above Argyle’s development team. St Austell currently sit 3rd in the division with 16 points from 6 games and are one of two teams to remain undefeated in their division. Having beaten Torquay 2-0 in the previous round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, St Austell will be looking to continue their bright start to the season with a cup upset against Argyle.
Having fallen to a 3-0 defeat against Oxford last weekend, The Pilgrims will be looking to bounce back to winning ways against St Austell. Argyle should have several players available again after they missed out against Oxford. Jemma Rose, Ellen Thomas and top goal scorer Natasha Knapman are all expected to return to the squad against St Austell. Argyle will, however, be without two players who did play against Oxford, with goalkeeper Poppy Soper being away on international duty after being called up to the Welsh national team again.
Midfielder Kayley Lane will also miss out due to being cup-tied, after playing and scoring for St Austell in the previous round. Due to having a dual registration, it remains to be seen whether or not Lane will line up for St Austell against Argyle, but it promises to be an intriguing cup tie regardless.
Unlike most of Argyle’s home games which are played at the Manadon Sports and Community Hub, Sunday’s fixture will take place at Saltash United’s Kimberley Stadium.
The game kicks off at 1 pm, Tickets cost £3 for everyone and Under 3s have free entry.
