League action continues for Argyle Women this weekend, as they travel to Newport Stadium to face Cardiff City.

Ryan Perks’ side will be eager to carry on building upon their resolute performance against Ipswich Town, where the Greens were able to go toe-to-toe against a top side, despite the match ending 3-1 to Ipswich.

“I was really proud of the players last Sunday. Looking back on our previous matches against Ipswich, that was easily the best I’ve seen us play,” said Perks. “We asked the girls to be brave and confident in possession; in the last few weeks we’ve been doing that, which has allowed us to build in the right direction as well as reap the rewards along the way.

“The match was a great showcase for tier three women’s football and in what will be our final home fixture at Coach Road this season, it felt good to give this group of fans who come every week a quality performance to remember as we approach the end of the season.”

As Argyle bid farewell to Coach Road for the 2023/24 season their attention turns to this Sunday’s away fixture against Cardiff, a match that will be the third against the Welsh side. The Dragons knocked Argyle out of the League Cup in early October, and took all three points in December in a match that Perks still feels as though his side should have had more from on the day.

He said: "In our first match against Cardiff, we got dragged into a dogfight rather than a football match, which suited them more than us. In the end, they came away with the win.

"When we faced them in December, we were the better team on the day and we performed really well, we just couldn't put the ball in the back of the net and faced a goalkeeper who had a superb game.

"Since then, we’ve found ourselves in good form but so have Cardiff so I expect a good match this weekend that if we play as well as we did last Sunday, I’m confident we can come away with a positive result.”

The game will be held at Newport Stadium. Kick-off is at 2pm, with tickets costing £5 for adults, while Under-16s gain entry free. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
