Preview | Argyle Women v Exeter City (A)
Argyle Women take a break from league action this week and travel to Exwick Sports Hub for their first away fixture this season, where they take on local rivals Exeter City in the FAWNL Cup/Plate determining round.
Argyle will be looking to clinch their first win of the season and bounce back from last week's result against Billericay Town, where they suffered a 6-0 defeat at Coach Road in the FAWNL Southern Premier Division Opener.
“It was a disappointing result,” said a reflective manager Ryan Perks. “The girls didn’t play as well as we know we can. We had lots of players missing which doesn’t help the situation, but hopefully we’ll have a few faces returning this weekend, so we can put on a better performance and get a better result.”
The winner of this fixture will advance further into the League Cup whilst the loser advances into the League plate.
It was not that long ago that both sides faced each other in the final of the Clickhub Devon Women’s Premier Cup. Exeter claimed the trophy that day, via a penalty shoot-out after a ferocious 90-minute battle ended in a 1-1 draw. Perks and his side are eager to avenge their previous result against the Grecians.
“With a local derby, you always want to get the result,” he said. “Exeter and Argyle being the biggest women’s teams in the South West makes it natural for there to be a huge amount of passion that goes into this game from players and fans alike. It’s our job to not get drawn into that too much but when you do get the result you want it makes it all the more enjoyable.”
The game will be held at Exwick Sports Hub, kick-off is at 2pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults while concessions and children cost £3. If you cannot make it to the game, updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
