The Game
Cambridge United vs Argyle. Cledara Abbey Stadium. Saturday, 24 October. 3pm. Sky Bet League One.

The Opposition
Cambridge United came into 2026/27 as a Sky Bet League One side after a singular campaign in the fourth tier, which culminated in promotion. In the summer, Neil Harris added to what was an already strong squad with clear ambition to not just survive in League One, but to thrive.

It began with a win in the first round of the Carabao Cup against Barnet followed by a victory against Wigan Athletic in their opening league fixture. They then faced narrow defeat in the next round of the cup against Championship opposition - Millwall. Another narrow defeat ensued, this time in the league against Huddersfield Town, before Harris' side began the impressive run they currently remain on.

The U's haven't lost in any competition since the Huddersfield game at the end of August - a run that now spans 10 matches. In that period, Cambridge have picked up league wins against Bradford City, Reading, Blackpool and Barnsley as well as hard-fought draws against Burton Albion, Oxford United, AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers.

The Gaffer
Cambridge United manager Neil Harris played for the U's, beginning his career there before a move to Millwall. He made around 400 appearances for the Lions across two stints, also spending time at Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Gillingham and Southend United throughout his professional career.

Upon retiring in 2015, Harris became manager of former side Millwall after a number of temporary stints in charge. He would go on to spend over four years at The Den, leading Millwall to two League One play-off finals, one in which his side lost and one in which he side achieved promotion to The Championship. He also oversaw an impressive Emirates FA Cup run in which Millwall reached the quarter-finals, knocking out three Premier League sides en route.

He would eventually resign in 2019 and join Cardiff, where he led them to a play-off finish before facing the sack in 2021. A season-and-half followed at Gillingham in which the Kent side were relegated into League Two. He then had a short but successful period at Cambridge before joining Millwall again for the best part of a year.

Harris then returned to The U's at the beginning of 2025 before they were eventually relegated into the fourth tier. Last season, he returned them to League One at the first time of asking and remains in charge at Cledara Abbey Stadium to this day.

Ones to Watch
Creative outlet Ben Knight was born in Cambridge but was picked up by Ipswich Town as a youngster, eventually going on to sign for Manchester City as a 16-year-old. He would then spend time in the Citizens academy, featuring for the under-18s, under-21s and under-23s before eventually making his senior City debut in the FA Community Shield against Leicester City. Football League loans followed at both Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County before a permanent departure to join Spanish side Real Murcia in 2024. He spent a few months in Spain before returning to England to join hometown club Cambridge United in June 2025.

Former Argyle loanee Kelland Watts has been imperious at the back so far this season for Cambridge United. The centre-back's career began at Newcastle United; he would go on to have loans away from Tyneside with Stevenage, Mansfield Town, Argyle, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United. Watts was eventually released by Newcastle in 2024, with the defender then opting to sign for Cambridge. He has since remained at Cledara Abbey Stadium and has recently made his 100th appearance for the club.

On-loan striker Gassan Ahadme has scored four goals for Cambridge United already this season. He was born in Barcelona and started his career at Norwich, having loans away from Carrow Road at Real Oviedo B and Portsmouth. After departing Norwich, Ahadme struggled to find a long-term home, instead spending time at Burton Albion, Ipswich Town, Cambridge, Charlton Athletic and Stevenage. In the summer, the forward returned to The Cledara Abbey Stadium for a second loan stint, this time from Charlton, where he has begun well.

Team News
Tom Cleverley's side came through Tuesday night's game unscathed with no new additions to the injury list.

Argyle's Head Coach revealed that Mathias Ross will miss the trip to Cambridge as his continues to recover from his foot infection.

Cleverley described Malachi Boateng and Michael Baidoo as "very close [to returning] without being involved." Owen Oseni's return from injury will be slightly later, with him being estimated to be back at some point throughout the festive period.

Previous Meeting
Last time we faced Cambridge was back in 2023, with Steven Schumacher in charge of the Greens on that afternoon. Callum Wright put Argyle in front after just 15 minutes but Sam Smith soon levelled the game. Second-half goals from Joe Edwards and Niall Ennis ensured victory for the Greens at Home Park as they powered towards promotion.
