The Game
Huddersfield Town v Argyle. Accu Stadium. Saturday, 8 November. 3pm. Sky Bet League One.
The Opposition
It has been an unusual season for Huddersfield Town so far in 2025/26. After a 10th-placed finish last season, the Terriers began with four wins in their first six, beating Reading away, and defeating Doncaster Rovers, Stevenage and Peterborough United at home.
A loss at nearby Bradford City came before a goalless draw with Burton Albion at home and, although Huddersfield beat Exeter City on the road in their next fixture, they have not won in the league since, losing consecutively to Stockport County, Bolton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers.
In the Carabao Cup, Huddersfield got past Leicester City and Sunderland, beating both on penalties, before losing 2-0 at home to Manchester City. Last weekend, in the Emirates FA Cup, Huddersfield were beaten 2-1 at Bolton. In midweek, Huddersfield won 3-1 against Mansfield Town in the Vertu Trophy.
The Gaffer
In his playing years, Lee Grant was a goalkeeper, representing Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley, most notably, in a playing career that spanned 20 years and over 500 games. He concluded his career with Manchester United, but played just a handful of times, ostensibly as third-choice keeper.
At United, he became acquainted with Kieran McKenna and, on retiring, Grant joined McKenna’s coaching staff at Ipswich Town, becoming assistant manager during their promotion to the Premier League. In the summer, he left Portman Road to take up his first managerial post, at Huddersfield.
The Squad
Welsh defender Joe Low (below) began his career with Bristol City, having several loans out before signing for Wycombe Wanderers in 2023. Impressing at the heart of the Chairboys’ defence, he earned a move to Huddersfield in the summer, and has also received two Wales caps.
Dutchman Ruben Roosken began the season playing on the left side of Huddersfield’s midfield, but has more recently been playing at left-back. The 25-year-old began his career at Emmen, and played for TOP Oss and Heracles Almelo, before signing for Huddersfield in January.
Experienced midfielder Ryan Ledson signed for Huddersfield in the summer following seven seasons at Preston North End, where he played over 200 games. Beginning his career at Everton, Ledson had a loan at Cambridge United, then signed permanently in the other Varsity city, Oxford.
Previous Meetings
Argyle and Huddersfield last met two seasons ago, when both sides were in the Championship. Argyle’s first game of the 2023/24 season was a 3-1 win over Huddersfield, with Morgan Whittaker, Bali Mumba and Ryan Hardie scoring the goals. Later that season, Whittaker was again on the scoresheet, as the sides drew 1-1 in Yorkshire.
