The Game
Peterborough United v Argyle. Weston Homes Stadium. Saturday, 17 January. 3pm. Sky Bet League One.

The Opposition
Peterborough are 10th in League One, with 35 points. They have 11 wins, two draws, and 12 defeats. The numbers do not tell the full tale.

In their first seven league games, Posh accrued one point, a draw against Bradford, losing the other six games. They won their next two, including one against Argyle, then lost twice more.

Posh then won at Burton, then lost again, this time to Blackpool at home, and this was the end of manager Darren Ferguson. His replacement was Luke Williams, who took over with Peterborough bottom of the league. They have played 12 league games since then, winning eight. Only Cardiff, the league leaders, have better form in those dozen games.

The Gaffer
Luke Williams had no playing career to speak of, but taking up coaching at an early age, with academy roles at Leyton Orient, West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion, set up for a management career.

Williams’ first top job was at Swindon, where he had gone in as a first-team coach, then after a strong caretaker manager performance, he took over. However, he left after relegation.

Luke Williams

He became assistant manager to Russell Martin at Milton Keynes Dons and Swansea City, before becoming boss at Notts County. He took County up through the National League play-offs, and then had them riding high in League Two when departing to take the manager’s job at Swansea.

That role lasted just over a year, as he left in February 2025. Williams was appointed head coach at Peterborough in late October.

The Squad
Archie Collins is the only player to be ever present this season for Peterborough. The 26-year-old central midfielder was born in Taunton and came through the ranks at Exeter City. After over 200 games for the Grecians, he left in 2023, bound for Peterborough, where he has been a staple ever since.

Peterborough added experience to their back line in August with the acquisition of defender Tom Lees. Lees, 35, left Huddersfield after four years in the heart of their defence. Prior to that, he had seven years in the Championship as a regular starter with Sheffield Wednesday, and that came after breaking through at Leeds United.

Harry Leonard

Up front, Harry Leonard (above) is Peterborough’s leading goalscorer this season, with nine goals, eight in the league. A Deadline Day signing at the end of the recent summer window, just before his 22nd birthday, Leonard left Blackburn Rovers, who were his first club. Leonard only scored five times in 36 outings for Rovers, but has found form in Cambridgeshire.

Previous Meetings
Earlier this season, Peterborough won 1-0 at Home Park, with a goal from Jimmy-Jay Morgan around the half-hour mark.
