The Game
Stevenage vs Argyle. SPORTA Arena. Tuesday, 20 October. 7.45pm. Sky Bet League One.

The Opposition
Stevenage have had a mixed start to the campaign, accurately represented by their current standing in the Sky Bet League One table - 12th. It was a slow start; Stevenage failed to win any of their opening four league fixtures, instead drawing three and losing once.

However, once they got their first victory, 5-1 away at Barnsley, they went on a run. Including cup competitions, Stevenage won five of six games spanning just over a month. Their defeat at Bradford City on Saturday was only their second since the start of September, they will be hoping to respond to it, like Argyle will be from their own loss, under the lights on Tuesday night.

The Gaffer
42-year-old Alex Revell is Stevenage’s current manager, having been in his post since 2024. The former striker forged his career in non-league with Braintree Town before featuring in the Football League for Brighton & Hove Albion, Southend United, Leyton Orient, Rotherham United, Cardiff City, MK Dons, Northampton Town and Stevenage.

In 2019, Revell announced his retirement, stepping into a coaching role with Stevenage, in which he led the club’s under-18 side. He did briefly come back out of retirement toward the end of the 2019/20 campaign, in an attempt to help save Boro from relegation out of the Football League. This did not last long, as within a month, Revell was named manager, following the resignation of Dino Maamria.

The season was curtailed prematurely due to COVID-19 and Boro were saved, with Revell keeping his job for a further season-and-a-half, before being sacked. Just months later, the ex-forward returned to Stevenage in an academy coaching role. After a few months, Revell’s former coach – and then Stevenage manager – Steve Evans brought him into the first-team coaching setup.

When Evans departed The SPORTA Arena in 2024 to join Rotherham United, Revell was made first-team manager for the second time. Since then, Revell has impressed, turning Stevenage into a side capable of challenging for promotion in Sky Bet League One.

Ones to Watch
Dominative midfielder Dan Kemp was born in London and spent large parts of his youth career at Chelsea before joining West Ham United as a 16-year-old. Whilst with the Hammers, Kemp featured for both the under-21s and under-23s. His next step was to go on loan; he was sent to Stevenage and Blackpool. Permanent stints followed at Leyton Orient and MK Dons, the latter where he was also loaned out, this time to Hartlepool United and Swindon Town. Following his release in 2024, Kemp signed for Stevenage, where he has since scored 22 times and assisted 11.

Club captain Carl Piergianni came through the ranks at Peterborough United, but was let go in 2011. The centre-back went on to have non-league stints at Stockport County, Corby Town and Boston United, before a move down under in 2017. After a short period, Piergianni returned to England, joining Salford City, where he achieved two promotions. The defender would eventually become out of favour at Salford and opt to move to Oldham Athletic. He spent two-and-a-half years with the Latics before making the move to current club, Stevenage, in 2022.

Former Pilgrim Saxon Earley progressed through the academy ranks at Norwich City, eventually signing professional terms in 2021. During the first half of the 2022/23 campaign, Earley was on loan with Stevenage, starring in Sky Bet League Two. Argyle then signed the wing-back midway through the season, cutting his loan short. Injuries plagued the defender’s time at Home Park; Earley only made 11 appearances for the Greens in two-and-a-half years. The 23-year-old returned to Stevenage in 2025, this time permanently. Since then, Earley has become a regular fixture in Alex Revell's Stevenage side.

Team News
Joe Edwards' precautionary withdrawal against AFC Wimbledon has boded well for the Greens; he is being pencilled in for a return ahead of Tuesday night's trip to Stevenage.

Malachi Boateng and Michael Baidoo are "progressing really well" with Tom Cleverley revealing: "the FA Cup weekend looks like it could be realistic [for a return]."

Owen Oseni and Joe Mwaro shouldn't be too far behind that pair, with returns estimated to be at some point throughout the festive period.

Previous Meeting
Last time we faced Stevenage, back in March, Argyle ran out 1-0 victors. It was a tight and cagey game at Home Park in which Mathias Ross' goal proved the difference between the two sides. The Dane powered above a cluster of players in the box to head in off the underside of the crossbar, earning Argyle all three points on the evening.
