The Game
Argyle v Stevenage. Tuesday, 17 March. 7.45pm. Sky Bet League One.

The Opposition
Stevenage had an incredible start to the season, winning eight of their first ten games. However, from the middle of October to the middle of January, they struggled, winning just two out of 16.

That said, when it looked like they may fall away, they have rallied, and have won six of their last ten, to maintain their play-off aspirations. As it stands, Stevenage are fifth, with 57 points from 36 games. They have a game in hand on all of the rest of the top six, although Stockport County, in seventh, have played a game fewer.

The Gaffer
Alex Revell started his career at Cambridge United, and had a long career, playing for the likes of Brighton, Southend, Leyton Orient, Rotherham, Northampton and others. His last club as a player was Stevenage, where he transitioned into coaching, and was given the manager’s job near the end of the 2019/20 season, before it was curtailed.

Revell continued in the job until November 2021, when he was sacked. It did not take long before he was back coaching in the academy, eventually getting promoted to a first-team coaching role, then taking over the top job again when Steve Evans moved on.

The Squad
Carl Piergianni (below) is likely to line up in the back three for Stevenage. The 33-year-old defender is the club’s captain, and has been there since 2022, playing nearly 200 games. He has also represented Stockport County, Boston United, Salford City and Oldham Athletic, among others.

Leading goalscorer Jamie Reid now has 14 goals for the season, having scored four in his last five. Reid, 31, was born in Torquay, and started his career with Exeter City. He had several loans out, including to Torquay United, where he eventually signed permanently, and spent the best part of five years at Plainmoor. He moved on to Mansfield Town for a year, before heading to Stevenage in 2021.

Harvey White is likely to play in the middle for Stevenage. White, 24, began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, gaining experience with loans at Portsmouth and Derby County, before joining Stevenage in 2023. He has played 38 games in all competitions this season, scoring five goals. Those five goals came in an eight-game period in September and October.

Earlier This Season
Argyle drew 1-1 with Stevenage when the sides met earlier this season, on New Year’s Day. The home side took the lead through Luther James-Wildin early in the second half, with Argyle levelling via Malachi Boateng.
