Kevin Nancekivell

QPR (H) | Nancekivell's Preview

One down, five to go.

First-team coach Kevin Nancekivell, who is steering the ship for Argyle alongside Director of Football Neil Dewsnip until the end of the season, says that Friday’s win at Rotherham United was perfectly timed, but now Argyle need to take all the qualities they showed in that game, and amplify them on Tuesday night.

That is when Queens Park Rangers – two points and two places ahead of Argyle in the Sky Bet Championship table – will visit Home Park, with both sides in need of points.

“There's no hiding from the fact that it was an important game for us,” said Nancekivell, speaking about the win at Rotherham. “Thankfully, we got the three points, and it gave us confidence going into the remainder of the season.

“It was important to win - that goes without saying – but the grit, the fight, the fire: that's what Plymouth Argyle is all about. It was hugely important that we showed that.

“As you can imagine, everyone bounced into work on Sunday. We were off on Saturday, but Sunday was bright. Lots of smiles, lots of confidence, lots of laughter and we went to work.

“Those who played recovered well, and the others had a little session. [Monday’s] been really good as well. We're excited about Tuesday night. We can't wait to get out and get going.

“We've got to do everything that we've done against Rotherham, and probably try to do it a little bit better if we can.

“We want to be high energy. We want to be on the front foot. The determination has got to be there and hopefully our ability will come through.”

Nick Tomlinson and the team at PAFC Displays have been at Home Park in recent days, working diligently to provide a backdrop to the entrance to the field of the teams on Tuesday night.

The support is indicative of the backing that the Green Army have given to the players in recent weeks, and no-one is more appreciative or more aware of their support than Nancekivell.

“It is everything to us,” he said. “If we need an extra spur to go to work, it's them. I know Nick and his team of workers were here in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday morning, preparing for Tuesday night, and we're all aware of that. We have unbelievable appreciation for what they do.

“We haven't scored or had good results at home recently, but prior to that, we've been pretty invincible at home, so I've got no doubt that we can get back to that. The players are aware of that situation. We're just desperate to get out on the grass and start getting three points again at home.

“We want [the Green Army] to come full of noise, full of passion and full of support, and hopefully we can repay them on the grass.

“I expect [QPR] to come down and be on the front foot as well. They've had a great period up until the weekend. They're fighting for their lives, as are we. It all goes in the mix for a humdinger of a game again.”
