Report | Argyle Women 1-0 Bridgwater United

Argyle Women

Phoebie Poole’s first goal in Green handed Argyle victory in their opening pre-season fixture against Bridgwater United on Sunday afternoon.

The tie at Plymouth Marjon University was Marie Hourihan’s first game as Argyle Head Coach, and the result ended in the home side’s favour after Poole’s volley early in the second half.

A corner was crossed into the area and sat up perfectly for Argyle’s number nine, who guided the ball into the top right corner of the visiting side’s goal.

The game started with some high-intensity and pressure from Hourihan’s side, but Argyle were unable to capitalise on chances in front of goal. Poole had a chance from the penalty spot, but she had to watch her effort rebound off the post and back into play just before the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

This initial pressure continued through the first 45 minutes, with the best chances falling to Charlotte Whitmore, Lulu Jarvis and Poole, but neither tested Bridgwater heavily.

Immediately after the restart, Argyle took the lead through Poole and continued to hunt for a second. Imy Crawford came close with a header and effort from inside the box, but both of her chances were saved and cleared away.

Georgie Knott’s long-range shot was the final chance of the game for Argyle, but after holding out and maintaining possession, the full-time whistle was blown and the Greens claimed victory in the sun.
