Report: Argyle Women 3-0 Hashtag United

Argyle women huddle

Argyle picked up an important three points to start the 2025/26 FAWNL season on Sunday, beating Hashtag United 3-0.

The Greens' confident victory at Home Park was thanks to goals from new signings Paris Dalton and Phoebie Poole, and Player of the Season Charlotte Whitmore.

The opening spell of the sunny encounter was equal for both sides, with neither keeping hold of possession for long nor testing out the defensive lines with attacking passages.

Just after the quarter-hour mark, Argyle found the breakthrough. A high press from midfielder Dalton paid off and, after her initial shot at goal was saved by Frankie Angel, the Greens’ number 17 tapped the ball home before being mobbed by her teammates.

The pressure continued from Argyle after taking the lead, and it seemed as though the second would come soon rather than later - and it did. Just a minute after a deflected shot was cleared off the line by Hashtag, Charlotte Whitmore doubled the Greens' lead.

Whitmore delivered a superb ball from the left flank, from a corner, which was flicked in via a Hashtag head.

It was all Argyle, and a third goal, scored just before half-time, was well deserved.

Poole won the ball high in Hashtag’s half, played a one-two with goal scorer Dalton, and slotted home into the corner of the visitors’ goal. Three goals up at the break, and it could have been many more.

The second half was far more sedate, although Argyle’s confident play continued throughout the second 45, and despite chances falling to the Greens, through Poole, Olivia Francis and Layla Proctor, Hashtag did just enough to halt the efforts.

At the other end, the Greens seldom looked in any trouble, although Hermione Cull made one flying save near the end to preserve a precious clean sheet.
