The Game
Argyle v Sheffield Wednesday. Home Park. Wednesday, 25 October. 7.45pm. Sky Bet Championship.

The Opposition
Sheffield Wednesday are bottom of the Championship after 12 games, with three points to their name. From their dozen games so far, they have picked up points away at Leeds United (0-0), at home to Middlesbrough (1-1) and at home to Huddersfield (0-0).

Most recently, they lost 1-0 last weekend at Watford, which was new manager Danny Rohl's first game in charge.

The Gaffer
Danny Rohl took charge of Sheffield Wednesday on 13 October, becoming the youngest manager in the EFL, aged just 34.

Danny Rohl

Rohl had a short playing career in the German lower leagues, before embarking on a coaching journey that has led him to Hillsborough. Rohl was part of Ralph Hassenhuttl's coaching staff at RB Leipzig, and followed him to Southampton.

Rohl then moved to German giants Bayern Munich and also landed a job with the German national team, under Hansi Flick. He has appointed experienced coach Chris Powell to work with in his staff at the Owls.

The Squad
Wednesday's five league goals have come from five different sources, including experienced midfielder Barry Bannan and forwards Lee Gregory and Michael Smith.

Midfielder Bannan (below), who has 27 caps for Scotland, signed for Wednesday in 2015, and has played 367 times for the Owls. The former Aston Villa man, who also represented Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers, Leeds United, Derby County and Blackpool, found a home at Hillsborough and has ben a fixture of their side for years.

Striker Gregory, 35, once scored four goals in a game at Home Park, for Millwall in 2015. He spent five years with the Lions, and two with Stoke City, before signing for Wednesday in 2021. He scored 17 goals in his first season, then 11 last term as Wednesday were promoted from League One along with Argyle.

Smith, often Gregory's strike partner, caught the eye in several goalscoring seasons with Rotherham United, then moved the short distance to Sheffield in the summer of 2022. He netted 21 times in all competitions, making him Wednesday's top goalscorer.

A former Pilgrims among the Owls' ranks is midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson. Bakinson spent time with Argyle on loan in 2020, scored two goals in 14 games. At the time, he was borrowed to the Greens by Bristol City, and also spent time on loan at Newport County and Ipswich Town, before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 2022.

Argyle and Sheffield Wednesday have met 46 times, with Argyle winning 17, Wednesday 16. There have been 13 draws.

Last season, Argyle won the home fixture 2-1, with Sam Cosgrove scoring a late winner. In February, Wednesday won 1-0 at Hillsborough, with Callum Patterson scoring the winning goal, in a game marred by an injury to Michael Cooper.
