SuperCupNI Play-off Report - Argyle 3 County Armagh 2

Argyle’s Under-15 side completed a superb week in Northern Ireland with a 3-2 win over County Armagh which confirmed the Pilgrims as finishing in third place in the SuperCupNI Junior section.

Three wins in three games in the group stage qualified Argyle for Thursday’s semi-final, which ended in heartbreak with a penalty shoot-out defeat to West Ham United.

At Castlerock, on Friday, the Young Greens ended the week on a high, although the victory came in a topsy-turvy game.

Argyle took the lead after just five minutes with James Sharpe’s curling effort from the left side of the penalty area, and scored a second around the midway point of the first half, with Tobias MacClean turning in a left-wing corner from Billy Devlin at the near post.

However, Armagh hit back swiftly through Michael Emerson who clipped in from close range following a counter-attack down the right flank, to make it 2-1 at the break.

The second-half equaliser came from the penalty spot, with MacClean harshly punished for a foul, and Ben McKee coolly converting the spot kick. However, Argyle were quickly back in front.

Shortly after conceding, the Greens were awarded a penalty of their own, when Joel Tolcher was brought down. Jared Rendle stroked it home, taking his personal tally for the week to four goals.

A huge congratulations to James Bradley and all the staff who have travelled to Northern Ireland, and of course to the players themselves for representing Argyle superbly.
