Argyle will play their final game of SuperCupNI in the Bowl third-place play-off on Friday, after losing 2-1 to Charlton Athletic in the semi-final.
The match quickly started in Argyle’s favour, with Jacob Hare’s curling free-kick from the left flank somehow not finding its way into the back of the net, but just minutes later Toby Worthington put the Greens ahead with a slotted finish from a long-ball over the Addicks’ defence.
Charlton soon applied more pressure, forcing Tom Armytage into some important and acrobatic saves. However, Argyle could only hold on for so long with the continuous low possession and defensive efforts.
The Greens did go into the break with the lead, but on the 48th minute, following a slow start, Charlton found an equaliser with a perfectly placed finish into the far bottom corner.
This lead soon became two as a powerful left-footed strike flew into the top corner of the goal, leaving Argyle stunned.
The final eight minutes were chaotic, with chances for both teams at either end of the pitch, but Argyle could not do enough to find the important equaliser and suffered defeat at the Warren.
