Tom Cleverley on Looking Forward to a Tough Home Park Challenge

Argyle are in home action for the second Saturday in succession, as Huddersfield Town visit Home Park.

Last weekend, the Greens were victorious over AFC Wimbledon, winning 2-1 thanks to a last-gasp Xavier Amaechi goal that sent the Green Army wild.

Huddersfield had a similar, but opposite, experience. The Terriers were 2-0 up at home to Sheffield Wednesday, only to see the Owls pull it back to 2-2, including an equaliser eight minutes into stoppage time.

Despite that minor setback, Martin Drury’s Huddersfield are fourth in the Sky Bet League One table, having lost just once in their nine games this season.

Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley is looking forward to what he expects to be a tough challenge.

Speaking to Argyle TV, Cleverley said: “They've not given up much in terms of opportunities against or goals against this season. [They are a] really solid team. System-wise, they could be anything. They started in a back four at the start of the season, changed to a back three. Why I say that is two big injuries in the bottom line, to start in centre-half.

“Style-wise, I think they would come under the effective football team. They're not trying to win any beauty contests, a bit like ourselves. They're trying to be as effective in every phase as possible, which is exactly how I see the game.

“I've got a lot of respect for what Martin's doing there. They've probably gone to the next level from last season, and it'll be a really good challenge. I'm sure those things are all being said by the opposition and we're hoping for a great intensity, atmosphere and may the best team win.

“It's two top teams and had they not conceded in the very last minute last weekend, it would literally be first against second. We're all excited by that.”

Argyle’s squad looks to be boosted by several players reporting to be fit ahead of Saturday.

“Jack McKenzie and Alex Hartridge benefited from good minutes in the under-21s and are available to play for 90 minutes if needed,” said Tom. “Pleggy came through training [Thursday] morning just fine and is really keen to be involved Saturday, so it looks like he will be.

“Bim Pepple, the exact same. We expected Bim would be fine for this one. Expectation is he won't play the full 90 minutes, but he's fit enough to start the game.

“Joe Edwards had a positive scan, and will be available for the Stevenage game. The other boys, the three that are a bit more longer term - four if you include Joe Mwaro - we're targeting in around the FA Cup (7 November) game for those.

“For the short-term ones, it's really, really positive news. Ahead of a real testing week with three teams in the top ten, games that we're all looking forward to.”
