Argyle have signed midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson, for the second time.
The 27-year-old is joining on loan for the season from Leyton Orient, six years after a previous loan spell with the Greens.
Bakinson began his career with Luton Town, but moved to Bristol City aged 18, and spent five years with the Robins. During that time, he had loans with Newport County, Ipswich Town and, between those stints, Argyle.
It was during the promotion season of 2019/20, under Ryan Lowe, that Tyreeq became a temporary Pilgrim for the first time, playing 14 games and scoring two goals. His spell would have been longer, but the season was curtailed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, Bakinson joined Sheffield Wednesday, and was part of the Owls’ promotion-winning side from League One, behind champions Argyle.
During his time with Wednesday, Tyreeq had a loan with Charlton Athletic, then moved to Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2024. A year later, he joined Leyton Orient, for whom he played 43 games last season.
“Tyreeq can do a bit of everything in the midfield,” said Tom Cleverley, Argyle Head Coach. “He is tall, physical, reads the game well and is clean on the ball. I’m looking forward to working with him."
Director of Football Derek Adams added: “It’s pleasing that we have been able to act quickly after Brendan Wiredu leaving the football club. Tyreeq has a lot of experience at this level, has been a League One promotion winner, and at 27 is a good age for a midfielder. I am looking forward to seeing him in green and white.”
Tyreeq will wear the number 19 shirt, and is sponsored by Plymouth Home Improvements. He is available for Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Coventry City, subject to EFL approval.
