Argyle Under-18s can secure progression into the knockout stages of the Professional Development League Cup with a victory over Cheltenham Town this weekend.
The Greens travel to Gloucestershire on Saturday morning with the goal of topping the group, but will need to rely on high goalscoring and a clean sheet to do so.
Cheltenham currently lead, with two wins from two, with Argyle sitting one place below, after losing to Portsmouth 3-1 in the opening game of the competition and beating AFC Bournemouth at home, thanks to a last-minute goal from Sam Lord.
Four wins in a row place Argyle in a confident position in the mind of Jamie Lowry, but the Greens’ Head Coach also understands the challenge at hand.
“Ahead of the game, we're really confident with being four games unbeaten, since Mangotsfield United in the FA Youth Cup,” Lowry said. “Off the back of a good performance on Tuesday against MK Dons, the boys are full of confidence going into the game.
“They are a well-organised side and have won both games in this group stage so far, so they will be a difficult outfit to play against.
“They play forwards quite effectively, and set plays have been a strength of theirs over the years, so it’ll be a difficult challenge, but one we're going to go and try to embrace.
“We’re all aware we need to have a three- or four-goal swing to take it to a head-to-head tie, but it’s very important to stay in the game and be in the moment.
“If we're in the right situation, then we're going to have to have a bit of a go in the second half to try to go through if we can.
“We want to try to win the group. It's something we've always spoken about trying to qualify through, and we've still got an opportunity to do that.
“Training has been quite light and tactical over the last few days, with the boys doing a lot of recovery on Wednesday, as it is a three-game week. We’re in a good position ahead of Saturday.”
