Under-18s Report | Argyle 0-3 Swindon Town

Argyle Under-18s suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Swindon Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Greens struggled to get going early in the game, with the visiting Robins causing problems from the outset and creating threatening opportunities in and around the 18-yard box.

Frankie Maund seemed to have the best chance at breaking the deadlock 18 minutes into the game, but the forward was unable to get a shot away at goal after being tackled by two recovering Swindon defenders.

At the end of the half, however, it was the visiting side that held the advantage. Louis Millard’s 15-minute brace caught Argyle out, leaving the Greens chasing after the restart, but it was not enough.

Swindon added a third just after the hour mark, with a fourth nearly coming in the final stages of the game after a cross was fired across the six-yard box. Argyle did well to clear the ball away but couldn’t muster anything up in front of goal before the full-time whistle.

Head Coach Jamie Lowry said: “Saturday started brightly for us, but then we lost our will to play and get the ball and lost too many duels. Out of possession, we didn’t have the intensity, the willingness to win the ball back or compete in a duel, and I think the lads thought the opposition was going to let them have the ball, play, and do what they want - and the game doesn't work like that.

“You have to earn the right to play, and too many of them are just going through the motions at the moment. It wasn’t a very positive day, so now we must look ahead to Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.”
