Under-18s Report | Bromley 2-3 Argyle

Argyle Under-18s

Argyle Under-18s continued their fine run of winning form on Saturday morning, beating Bromley 3-2 away from home.

The EFL Youth Alliance League South tie ended in favour of the Greens thanks to a Fletcher Poole brace and a finish from substitute Frankie Maund.

The victory for Jamie Lowry’s side is their sixth, in all competitions, in as many games, putting them in a confident mindset ahead of their final few games in the calendar year.

Argyle started on the front foot from the get-go, creating chances in front of goal through Toby Haley and Poole, but neither were able to test Bromley captain and goalkeeper Rex Porter with their attempts.

Poole’s effort was arguably the best, but he dragged his low-driven shot wide of the far post, with Kian Burch also having a similar chance, from inside the box, just minutes later. This chance ended with a Porter save, cutting out the attacking threat Argyle posed on the hosts.

Annoyingly for the Greens, their inability to capitalise early on soon became a issue, with Bromley taking the lead through a Brody Cockerill finish from inside the box. This lead did not last long, however.

Poole headed home Seb Campbell’s free-kick from the right flank, bringing Argyle back into the match just six minutes after going behind.

The remainder of the half played out with the same scoreline but, quickly after the restart, it was bedlam again for the Greens, coming from the same scorer as the first.

Argyle’s number nine, Poole, got in behind the high defensive line of Bromley and fired the ball home, with power.

The hosts did fight back and had the ball in the Argyle net, but it was ruled out for offside. Lowry’s side did not let this potential scare hold them back, however, with chances for Campbell and Sam Lord falling inside the area.

Campbell should have hit the target with his effort, but scuffed the ball wide, whilst Lord saw his shot saved by Porter.

All the pressure from Argyle soon came to fruition, with Maund adding a third in the 74th minute. The forward latched onto a pass over the Bromley defence, pushed the ball onto his right foot and fired across goal into the bottom corner, before being mobbed by teammates in green.

Bromley did pull one back with the final kick of the game, thanks to a penalty kick from Jonathan Haftom, but it was not enough to get back into the game, with Argyle claiming all three points on the road.
