Argyle Under-18s beat Cambridge United 4-1 to continue their winning start to the Youth Alliance League season, making it five wins from five.
Daniel Ndeda gave the hosts an early lead before Marley-Blu Francis equalised for Argyle.
James Sharpe netted a brace to give the Young Pilgrims a 3-1 lead and Frankie Maund put the game beyond Cambridge’s reach in the 54th minute.
Head Coach Jamie Lowry made five changes from Tuesday’s defeat to Portsmouth.
Thomas Armytage and Jared Rendle returned to the squad having featured in first-team action against Crystal Palace Under-21s, replacing Leo McCormick and Corey Browne.
Dylan Williams, Tashall Sandhu and James Sharpe also reclaimed their place in the starting 11, coming in for Deniz Doru, Harry Locke and Emran Boudarga-Wischhoff.
This meant a back four of Jovan Wamani, Williams, Toby MacLean and Rendle started in front of Armytage.
Sandhu and Francis played out wide, with Joel Tolcher and Billy Devlin continuing in the middle of the pitch, while Sharpe and Maund resumed their strike partnership up top.
It was a fast start for Cambridge, who took the lead in the sixth minute when Ndeda slotted the ball into the back of the net after Armytage saved Davion Thompson’s initial shot.
Armytage went on to make several standout saves, including an outstanding one to deny Thompson’s header.
Francis equalised for Argyle, gathering the ball from a long throw-in and driving into the box to produce a powerful strike at goal.
Minutes later, Sharpe netted his first of the afternoon to give the Young Pilgrims a 2-1 lead.
Sandhu played a pinpoint cross into Sharpe who met the ball with a powerful header into the roof of the net.
In the 36th minute, Sharpe got his second after following up on Maund’s saved shot, before scoring from close-range.
Within 10 minutes of second-half action, Maund got a well-deserved goal to make it 4-1 to Argyle when he slid in at the back post to capitalise on a loose ball inside the six-yard box.
Lowry was able to rotate on the hour mark, with the game out of Cambridge’s reach. He replaced Rendle, Sandhu and Maund with Browne, Locke and Boudarga-Wischhoff.
Argyle continued to dominate possession and played some tidy football in the final 30 minutes as they held on to get a fifth league victory of the season.
Lowry was proud of his team for their performance in response to Tuesday’s loss to Portsmouth.
“I was really pleased with the boys overall,” he said. “We started off brightly even though they scored with their first attack of the game.
”Once we got the equaliser we got in control of the game and played really well.
“I am mindful that it has been a difficult week for the lads with travelling the distances we have. But I was really pleased with how they handled that.
”It has been a really good start in the league to be honest. The boys have set themselves the target to do really well in all competitions. But what is most important for me is that they are learning how to handle those expectations and how to have a strong winning mentality.
“There is a real togetherness in the squad right now and we have a great group who are eager to learn about what it takes to become a professional footballer.”
Argyle will now prepare for another away game, this time against Newport County on Tuesday.
