Argyle Under-18s ended their week-long pre-season camp with a 4-0 victory over the Liverpool FC Foundation at Melwood Training Centre on Friday morning.
Fletcher Poole and Seb Campbell scored a brace each to help the Greens to victory.
It was Argyle that had the first opportunity to take the lead. Frankie Maund was fouled in the area in the 13th minute but was unable to convert from the penalty spot because of an athletic diving save by the Liverpool goalkeeper.
Poole followed up and was able to get the first touch from the rebound, but his effort bounced off the post before being cleared by the opposition.
From that point, it was all Argyle. The building pressure became too much and, before half-time, Campbell’s slotted finish inside the 18-yard box gave the Greens a one-goal lead heading into the break.
The second half started much like the first and, just after the hour mark, Argyle’s lead quickly jumped from one, to two, to three. First, some tidy team play ended with Poole driving into the Liverpool area, shifting the ball onto his left foot and slotting home back across the goalkeeper’s body.
Celebrations ensued, and kick-off resumed the game - and that’s when Poole scored his second of the game. Pressure from the Greens’ number seven from the kick-off was too much for Liverpool's keeper and ended with an attempted clearance rebounding off the forward and into the goal.
Argyle continued to fight on, creating chances at one end of the pitch but also defending well as a team in their half. The fourth goal of the game came in the 83rd minute, when Campbell showed off his tidy footwork inside the area before calmly finishing past the Liverpool keeper.
Maund came close to adding a fifth in the final stages of the game, but four goals and a clean sheet resulted in happy smiles and chatter once the full-time whistle was blown.
