Argyle suffered an opening-day EFL Youth Alliance League South defeat to Luton Town on Saturday morning, losing 5-1 away from home.
The Hatters started the game immediately on the front foot, and within a quarter of an hour had the lead. Nassim El-Gourja fired a low effort into the far corner of Argyle's goal after some good play around the Greens’ 18-yard box.
Argyle then had a few chances of their own to cause Luton problems, but the defensive efforts from the backline and a great save from Charlie Booth, off a Fletcher Poole shot, held the lead for the hosts.
Just before half-time, Samuel Hincapie-Alfonso tapped home from inside the six-yard box, after Jack Flower tried to push a cross away from danger, doubling the lead.
Luton scored their third just after the hour mark, but Argyle were then handed a small chance of getting back into the game after Frankie Maund was fouled inside the area, with Poole converting from the spot.
Soon enough, however, Luton had their fourth and fifth. Dawid Gawel scored a four-minute brace for the hosts, securing them three points on the opening day of the season.
Head Coach Jamie Lowry said: “Saturday was disappointing, and there are some things we've got to fix quickly and improve on the little good moments going forward. Ultimately, we didn’t take care of the ball enough and turned it over too easily.
“We need to dust ourselves down and go again. It’s just the first game, but it’s a big learning curve, and we need to start learning things quickly and improving.”
