Argyle will be represented by ball number 3 in the Southern Section, when the Vertu Trophy quarter-final draw takes place on Saturday, 17 January.
The draw will be broadcast live on Sky Sports News from 11.20am. David Prutton will host the coverage, alongside Jobi McAnuff and Marc Albrighton.
For the quarter-final draw, clubs will remain regionalised with two draws taking place, one Northern and one Southern.
In this year's competition, Argyle progressed through Southern Group B in second place, before securing late wins over Leyton Orient and Bristol Rovers in the first two knockout rounds.
The Southern Section ball numbers are as follows:
1. AFC Wimbledon
2. Northampton Town
3. PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
4. Luton Town or Swindon Town
Quarter-final ties will take place in the week commencing 9 February.
