The Game
Argyle v Watford. Home Park. Monday, 1 January. 3pm. Sky Bet Championship.

The Opposition
Watford are 10th in the table, with nine wins, eight draws and eight defeats from their 25 games so far. Their 35 points has them four points shy of the play-off positions, and seven points ahead of Argyle. 

The Hornets have won four of their last eight fixtures, including winning their last three away games. They failed to win either of their last two games, though, losing 4-1 at home to Bristol City, then drawing 1-1 with Stoke City, also at Vicarage Road. 

The Gaffer
Valerien Ismael was appointed Watford manager during the summer of 2023. The former central defender had a distinguished career, representing the likes of Lens, Crystal Palace, Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.

He has managed in several countries - in Germany, Greece, Austria and, most recently, Turkey, with Besiktas. In England, he has had stints in charge of Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion. 

The Squad
Mileta Rajovic (below) is Watford's leading goalscorer this season, with eight league goals. Born in Denmark, with parents from Montenegro, Rajovic is a 24-year-old forward who Watford signed in the summer of 2023. He played for numerous Danish clubs, although Watford signed him from Swedish top-flight side Kalmar. 

Mileta Rajovic

Central defender Wesley Hoedt has been ever-present for Watford this season. The 29-year-old Dutchman played for AZ Alkmaar and Lazio before moving to Southampton in 2017 for around £15m. He had loans to Celta Vigo, Lazio and Antwerp before signing for Anderlecht. He joined Watford in January 2023. 

Vacoun Bayo was sent off in Watford's previous game, meaning he is suspended for the trip to Devon. 

 

Earlier This Season
The sides met in August, at Vicarage Road. The game finished 0-0, but was quite open despite thew scoreline, with both sides have excellent opportunities to win the game. In the end, however, it finished goalless.

The game is sold out for Argyle supporters.
