Report: Tavistock 0 Argyle XI 5
4th August 2012
ARGYLE'S Academy team would have been far more satisfied with this performance at Langsford Park than they were with their previous two outings...
...which had seen their youngsters lose 4-1 at Bridport and 4-3 at Elburton.Tavistock have assembled a useful squad for their assault on the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Premier Division title but the Lambs were rarely giving a chance to shine as Kevin Hodges' charges kept them penned in to their own half for long periods.
With the exception of missing winger Jed Harper-Penman and fit again striker Tyler Harvey, this was virtually the same side that lost to Villa on Wednesday but this was a much more fluent performance.
Harvey, who has looked impressive up front for the young Pilgrims, broke the deadlock six minutes before the break when he pounced on a mis-hit clearance to side-foot the ball into the bottom corner of the Tavistock goal from 12 yards.
Four minutes later, a speculative 20 yard effort from midfielder River Allen was deflected by striker Isaac Vassell into the home goal via the inside of the far post.
Allen was not to be denied as within a minute, he netted himself with an angled drive from close range after being set up by marauding right back Colin Watson, who has been another youngster to catch the eye.
Substitute left-winger Solomon Wheatley showed electric pace to slice open the home defence to score Argyle's fourth goal, with an angled drive, on 70 minutes.
Five minutes later, Wheatley ended another searing sprint for goal, down the opposite flank, by squaring the ball into the path of Vassell who netted with a firm 15 yard drive.
Argyle: Christian Walton (Andrew Hannah 82), Colin Watson, Ben Purrington (Tom Moxham 79), Andrew Elcock, James Bradley (Jeremy Tucker 79), Nathan Summers (Kieran Jewell 68), Isaac Vassell, River Allen (Solomon Wheatley 68), Tyler Harvey (Lewis Rooney 79), Jordan Copp, Jordan Berry (Will Sargent 76).
