Argyle 1 Ivybridge Town 0

ARGYLE booked their place in the last eight of the Devon St Luke’s Cup with a routine victory over Ivybridge Town.

Although only winning by the single goal, Argyle were by far the better side; enjoying most of the possession and controlling the tempo of the game.

In a team featuring eight professionals, the Pilgrims set about their non-league opponents from the start and went ahead when Isaac Vassell converted Warren Feeney’s low cross at the back post inside the first 15 minutes.

Matt Lecointe could of perhaps put the home side further in front just minutes later but fell foul to the flag of the assistant referee with only the goalkeeper to beat.

For the entire first-half, Argyle ‘keeper Ollie Chenoweth remained untroubled, sweating only slightly when Ivybridge striker Mark Berry’s audacious effort from distance bounced just wide of his right-hand post.

After the break, Lecointe had several more chances to add to the Pilgrims tally before fellow academy graduate Tyler Harvey stuck the post from 20 yards with ‘keeper Josh Oak well and truly beaten.

Robbie Williams then saw his drive palmed over the bar as Argyle sought to double their lead.

River Allen replaced Feeney just after the hour and announced his arrival by forcing a another good save out of Oak.

Harvey was again denied by the woodwork with five minutes to go after finding space in the middle to get off a shot.

The Pilgrims will now face a trip to Witheridge FC in the quarter-finals.
