Yeovil Town Youth 2 Argyle Youth 1

ARGYLE'S hopes of progressing into the knock-out stages of the Football League Youth Alliance Cup were shattered with this defeat at the Westlands Sports Centre.

This second defeat, in four cup games, meant that Kevin Hodges' side slipped down to third in Group Two, behind Yeovil on goal difference.

The top five group winners plus the three best second placed clubs progess into the last eight and and that means that Argyle's interest in the competition ended at Yeovil.

With Tyler Harvey away with the first-team at Dorchester, Hodges was able to include some of his schoolboys and handed a starting birth to Ryan Lane.

But Yeovil struck, with the first goal of the game, after 24 minutes when a superbly executed volley by Aiden Chaney flew in to the far corner of the net.

The visitors hit back to level matters, a minute before the break, when 15-year-old Ivybridge midfielder Lane on hand to tap home from close range after Yeovil 'keeper Matt Cafer could only parry Andrew Elcock's shot.

The goal that was to prove to be Yeovil's winner, came 10 minutes after the break, when Charlie Ware headed home a right wing cross from Oakley Hanger.

But even then Argyle had a great chance to equalise but Joshua Hutchinson fired over an open goal and with it went Argyle's cup hopes.

Argyle: Christian Walton, Colin Watson (Kieron Asumadu-Sakyi 70), Ben Purrington, Andrew Elcock, James Bradley, Nathan Summers, Jordan Berry, River Allen (Louis Rooney 82), Ryan Lane, Joshua Hutchinson, Solomon Wheatley (Callum Hall 60).
