Charles The Second

EXPERIENCED defender Anthony Charles has become the second signing of the day.

Anthony, 31, has moved to Argyle from League 2 rivals Northampton Town on a permanent deal until the end of the current season.

Anthony will wear the number 26 shirt.

London-born Anthony began his career in non-league with then Spartan South Midlands League side Brookhouse, now know as Hayes.

However, his talent as a young man did not go unnoticed and in 2000, Dario Gradi picked him up for Crewe Alexandra.

Following a loan spell with Hyde United, Anthony headed south once more, making 14 appearances for Hayes United before helping Aldershot Town into the Isthmian League Premier Division in 2003.

Anthony spent the next 18 months with Farnborough Town before a move to Barnet saw him secure a Conference winners medal in 2005.

Now back in the Football League, Anthony found first-team chances at Underhill hard to come by and returned to Aldershot, initially on loan.

Having impressed back with the Shots, he signed for the Recreation Ground side permanently in 2007, and went on to captain the side.

He picked up another Conference winners’ medal along the way to making more than 150 appearances for the Shots before leaving for Northampton Town in March.

Charles arrives at Home Park match-fit, having played 11 times for the Cobblers so far this season.
