McCabe came through the academy at Middlesbrough, and is extremely highly rated by the club. He made his professional debut against Preston North End in 2023.

An England youth international, McCabe is a ball-playing central midfielder who impressed in the pre-season of 2025/26 for his boyhood team, including starting in a draw against Rangers at Ibrox.
